A young 16-year-old girl from Northern St. Paul, Minnesota, a domestic violence victim speaks from the grave.

Where do you draw the line between love and obsession? A child caught unaware of the slight traces of violence may be deemed simply as innocence. However, what you do as an adult when you see the truth behind the sweet facade of young love is ignorance and neglect. Friends and family say that they did not see it coming but you can't help but ask, "Didn't they, really?" How couldn't they have seen it coming when the signs were there? Forbidding Anna to go to the bathroom by herself out of fear that she might be texting someone else? To most of the people around them, it was merely just "normal" teenage behavior. Was it?

The book was written by Jennifer Smith (Anna's mother) and Cherry Tigris (an advocate for child abuse survivors) with the goal to raise awareness against teen-dating violence and domestic violence as a whole through Anna's story.

Many of the people that surround you are all potential victims. "I Trusted Him" provides insights into the needs of these potential victims. Take a look around. How many potential victims do you see in your church, office, or school? The life you save may be the life of a neighbor, a sibling, a child, your best friend. The life you save may even be your own.

Interview with Cherry Tigris

Read Interview

Author Q: Cherry, why did you decide to co-author "I Trusted Him"?

It fundamentally bothered me that Jennifer shouldered so much criticism in the face of her daughter's brutal murder. I had to ask, "Why MUST the conversation always focus on the victim? Why aren't we asking more questions about the conditions surrounding the boyfriend's mental stability and upbringing?"

Author Q: When you talk about domestic violence I hear the passion in your voice, where does that passion come from?

I am passionate about the campaign against domestic violence because I believe the key to preventing it, is readily available.

The only thing separating cases of lethal domestic violence from healthier relationships is the word HOPE. Without hope for a brighter and healthier future, we have nothing. This lack of hope was present in both Anna and Mark. Neither of them could see any other way of escape from what had become an impossible situation to navigate.

Author Q: Funds raised will go to The Dwelling Place in St. Paul, MN. This is a charity picked by Jennifer Smith to honor Anna. What do you think?

Yes, the money will be used for the continuous efforts of the book with its mission to end domestic violence but more importantly it will benefit The Dwelling Place in order for them to help more victims.

Author Q: Asking for help can be difficult, but it is necessary, do you have any parting words?

Please support our efforts and the efforts of so many others who BELIEVE domestic violence is a preventable tragedy. With your help, we will be able to provide awareness to teens who need it the most. Don't let Anna's death or the death of any teenager as a result of domestic violence, be in vain. Wake up. Stop the hurt. Heal Hearts. Save Lives!

LOOK AT THE FACTS

Anna is only one of thousands of women who suffer domestic violence every year. About 75% of victims are killed as they attempt to leave a relationship or after the relationship had ended. On average, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or partners in this country every day. There are millions of women who need help.

Domestic violence can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic or psychological abuse. Thirty percent of Americans say they know a woman who has been physically abused by her partner in the past year.

HELP US. STOP THE PAIN. HEAL HEARTS. SAVE LIVES!

Stats will continue to increase if we don't intervene. Paradise Publishers and the authors of "I Trusted Him" have taken a stand against domestic violence by raising awareness through the success of the book. "I Trusted Him" has been downloaded over 20,000 times. Raising awareness is not enough so we've teamed up with The Dwelling Place - a charity chosen by Jennifer Smith to honor Anna's memory.

By choosing to donate today to help The Dwelling Place's day to day operations, you will be helping to, Stop the pain. Heal hearts. Save lives! The donations raised will not just help The Dwelling Place but will also support the continuous efforts to raise awareness of Anna's story and the mission to put an end to domestic violence.

THE DWELLING PLACE

Located in St. Paul, Minnesota, The Dwelling Place provides transitional housing and supportive services to women and their children fleeing a violent partner. The Dwelling Place provides safe shelter and effective programs for 12-18 months. The entire program aims to prevent the victims from returning to their abusers by giving them the hope and another chance to start a new life free from the abusive individuals from their past.

HOW WILL FUNDS HELP THE DWELLING PLACE?

Your support for "I Trusted Him" will help the authors spread awareness about domestic violence and will impact countless lives just like Anna's. The Dwelling Place receives hundreds of calls for help each year from victims of abuse. Your contribution, no matter how small, will help this amazing program expand their housing capacity and outreach efforts so that more victims will find safety and hope.

For every $35 raised, a woman receives another day in a warm safe shelter away from her abuser. Every $1050 raised provides an entire month to heal and learn how to be a survivor.

Your combined donations will provide life transforming spaces in the expanded location:

• $1,000 will pay for a bathroom where kids can splash and play in the tub without fear, and where mom can put on her makeup and not have to cover up bruises.

• $4,000 will pay for a well-stocked kitchen where moms can prepare healthy meals and families can eat in peace.

• $5,000 will buy a bedroom where a mom can snuggle up with her kids, read them bedtime stories, say prayers, and tuck them in, knowing they will not be awakened by fighting or screams or police at the door.

• $10,000 will provide a family room where kids are laughing and playing, and moms can relax and start rebuilding their lives.

• $12,500 provides a child or teen with a warm, soft bed for an entire year, and the peace of knowing mom is safe too. This year gives a child their own program to understand domestic abuse so they have the chance to grow up choosing to be a survivor, breaking the generational cycle of domestic violence. This is a bargain compared to the $40,000 plus it costs to house a man in prison for domestic assault or murder for one year.

Every dollar you give makes a difference.
PLEASE DONATE. STOP THE HURT. HEAL HEARTS. SAVE LIVES!

WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO DO?

A mother, driven by her grief, created an impact by writing a book about the darkness that enveloped her daughter's life. An author and advocate for child abuse survivors dedicated her life to a worthy cause. A publishing house championed a cause, gave its resources and manpower to call for an end to domestic violence.

YOU supported the effort with your donation. THANK YOU!
